SnowByResort (snowbyresort.com) shows snow forecasts for ski resorts. You can use it without an account. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. We don't sell your personal information.

What we collect

  • Your resort list. Without an account it stays in your browser (local storage). With an account it is saved on our server so it follows you between devices.
  • Account details, if you sign up: a username, your email address and a hashed password (we never store the password itself). We use your email for storm alert emails you turn on and for password resets.
  • Powder alerts, if you turn on phone or browser notifications: the push address your browser gives us, your favorite resorts and your alert threshold.
  • Day reviews you post on a resort's snow calendar: the star rating and note. To allow one review per person per day we keep a scrambled (hashed) value derived from your IP address, not the address itself.
  • Feedback you send us: your message, the email address if you give one, the page you were on and your browser type.
  • Usage data. Our server keeps standard logs (such as IP address and pages requested) to run the site and stop abuse.

Cookies and similar tools

  • A sign-in cookie keeps you logged in. Your browser's local storage remembers your units, theme and resort list.
  • Google Analytics tells us how many people visit and which features they use. Google sets its own cookies to do this. See how Google uses data from sites that use its services.
  • Meta Pixel (Facebook and Instagram) may be used to measure our ads, for example whether someone who saw an ad later added a resort. Meta may use cookies for this. You can manage this in your Meta ad preferences.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The forecasts still work without them.

Services that receive data

  • Forecast providers. Your browser asks Open-Meteo and the US National Weather Service for forecasts directly, so they see your IP address and the resort location being looked up, like any website you visit.
  • Hosting and email. The site runs on Railway, and emails are sent through our email provider. They process data only to provide those services to us.
  • Analytics and ads: Google and Meta, as described above.

We may also share information if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We keep account data until you ask us to delete your account. Feedback, reviews and alert settings are kept until they are no longer needed or you ask us to remove them. Turning off powder alerts removes that device's push address.

Your choices

You can remove resorts and turn off alerts at any time. To have your account or any other data deleted, or to ask what we hold about you, use Send feedback at the bottom of any page and include your username and an email address we can reply to. We will handle the request within 30 days.

Children

SnowByResort is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page.
